Safe Homes, Build Lives

Adopt a Family Program
This is the perfect opportunity for your family, church group, business, school or community organization to make a lasting difference in the lives of some less fortunate than us. We must work together to meet our Social Responsibilities.
Families in Crisis
In May 2006 over 1.5 million people were left homeless in Indonesia after a catastrophic earthquake hit the island of Java. The Domes for the World Foundation (DFTW) can now offer you the opportunity to make a REAL difference for a very reasonable commitment from you or your organization.
We build simple, but permanent, disaster-resistant houses for just $3000 each. This is an excellent charitable investment. You will be building a home that will last for centuries. Generation after generation will be affected by your generosity.
It’s an exciting adventure to adopt a family! You will receive reports with photos and updates almost every day during the construction process. You will get letters from the family(ies) and be able to interface directly with our Indonesian superintendents.
We are able to build these homes so inexpensively because we have trained local crews, all the equipment is in place and we re-use much of the rubble from the earthquake(s). In addition, neighbors pitch in with extra labor, food for workers and materials.
The houses are not fancy. There is no indoor plumbing, etc., but they are by far the nicest homes in the villages and will provide a safe haven during typhoons and the constant earthquakes.
Choose the family you would like to help! Review descriptions of families in need, and donate online.
A thank you letter from an adopted family
Dear Donors,
I enormously express gratitude in this letter for your kindness to give a help in a form of a dome house as a form of your sympathy and care to my family whom had been desperate for a new house because of the earthquake disaster in May 26, 2006.
My family and I hope that from your charity to us, you will receive an equitable reward from God.
Furthermore, I know my family and I can be always comfortable to live in this house because we believe that this is a proper house and an earthquake proof building. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Subriyanto
A letter from the Superintendent
Dear Donors,
I want to say a lot of thanks to the donors who has been helping the house reconstruction program in Bantul Regency. Your help gives us new enthusiasm to some families here to survive in their live after the earthquake broke their house, destroyed their village, took their family and neighbors and minimize their enthusiasm to live. Your help has been very meaningful to families here. They say thanks to all of you.
I also want to say thanks for me and my workers. Donors have been giving a way for me to do service to a lot more people here. I still remember first meeting between Rebecca [South, President, DFTW], it is when I was just a volunteer who only have intention to help the victims of natural disaster in Indonesia.
We can maintain this enthusiasm and trust that donors have given us. Once again thanks for all of you.
Antonius “Yoss” Yusanto
DFTW Indonesia Superintendent
Donor Testimonials
- We thought this was a great thing. We would definitely encourage others to help. We are so fortunate in our side of the world and tend to forget it.
We think businesses could benefit from sponsoring projects like these, involve their employees in donating and having a campaign. How about involving schools? They can do a fundraiser to buy a dome for a family and get the updates. I am sure it would make their day! Kids love to help.
Again, thanks a lot for this opportunity. We hope we can help in the future. —Muriel & Simon Lia
- The daily reports personalized my donation. I felt the money was truly going to their home and I felt involved. —Alexandra
- We are in awe of [the DFTW Indonesian Crew’s] work ethic and how fast they got these done with so few tools. I love the scaffolds and the BUCKETS!! I think it would be wonderful if more families are helped or adopted. —Kay & Ernie Mudd
